A Mother's Love

As we celebrate Mother's Day this weekend, we honor the many women whose love, sacrifice, and faith reflect the heart of Christ in everyday life. Mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, teachers, mentors, and caregivers often become the quiet strength within families and communities. Through their patience, prayers, encouragement, and constant care, they reveal the beauty of faithful love.

In a special way, we look to Mary as the model of motherhood and discipleship. Mary loved Jesus with a heart full of trust and devotion. She said yes to God even without knowing what the future would hold. She cared for Jesus in His infancy, walked beside Him throughout His life, and remained near Him even at the foot of the cross. Her love was faithful not only in moments of joy but also in moments of sorrow and uncertainty.

I am blessed to know many women today who continue to mirror that same quiet faithfulness. Some of us had/have awesome moms, grandmothers, aunts, friends, coworkers that show us what it means to be a mother. My mom has been gone for 13 years this month. I loved her like crazy, but she made me nuts sometimes. I would give anything to just hear her voice or hug her one more time. She loved her children, grandchildren, parents, and family with a fierce love that could be warm and overwhelming at times. I didn’t truly understand why she loved so hard, so deeply, but I do now.

Like Mary, a mother’s love is deep. The moms in my life now continue to show qualities like Mary. They love deeply, pray constantly, serve selflessly, and often place the needs of others before their own. Much of what they do may go unseen, but their witness shapes hearts, strengthens families, and brings others closer to God.

This weekend can hold or bring up many emotions for people. For some, it is joyful and celebratory. For others, it may bring grief, longing, difficult memories, or the pain of loss. In every circumstance, God remains close.

Scripture reminds us: "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future." Proverbs 31:25

May we take time this weekend to thank God for the women who have nurtured us in faith and love. And through the example of Mary, may all women be reminded that their quiet acts of love, sacrifice, and faith matter deeply in the eyes of God.
