His Time
Time is tricky. We want it to slow down in the wonderful moments. Then speed up and get through things when the going gets tough. Or, who hasn’t wanted to turn back time, even just a few minutes, to try to reroute the course of history? All are very human responses to time.
This time of year brings so much change. The end of the school year. Graduations. Starting new chapters. Upcoming reorganization within churches. I look around me at this moment, and I see many people close to me facing big things. Some are sudden events that have happened in their lives, while others have been enduring the same pain for a long time. Depending on their trials, they may want time back, want it to slow down, speed up, or stand still. We just don’t have a remote for time in our life. There is no stop, start, reverse, or fast forward.
God does have this control. Trusting that He keeps the battery charged in the remote at all times can be a difficult task for us. Learning and surrendering to accept living life in His time, or on a timeline that is orchestrated by God is a life-long challenge. His timeline is not our own.
We have each encountered “that big thing.” It’s the thing that knocks us off our feet for a while, literally or figuratively. It’s the thing that we really couldn’t prepare for, don’t see coming, broke our hearts, or made us furious. And sadly, many of us have experienced more than one of “that big thing.” If you have “that big thing” in your life right now, I pray that you surrender to God’s control and timing in the matter. Thanks to my friend Lizzy, I encountered a podcast that brought me to reflect on three truths to hold onto when “that big thing” happens in life.
God is in control.
God is good.
God is not fixing our situation in the way that we desire.
Those of you that know me know my affinity for sticky notes, and at the moment, I have a sticky note on the kleenex box in my bathroom with these three truths. The sticky note is a great reminder for me, and to pray for all my family and friends going through big things. May we hold onto these three truths closely. May we surrender to these truths and find comfort in them. There is never a moment when God is not there. He was there. He is there. He will be there. He does not hold back His goodness. God does not delay. What we experience may seem like delay, but it’s not our own time that measures things, it’s His Time.
