If Not Now, When?

Last week my kids were at their father's, so it was just me. I had read a couple books just for fun, but I felt like I needed something more to do with my time that was relaxing. Enter "The Chosen." I had watched season 1 last year and have seen parts of season 2 at different church events, but I had not sat down to watch the second season yet. Over the course of the series I texted myself notes or quotes that I liked. These are lines from various characters in the show. Some of my texts are as follows:

  • "Just help us get through all of this with you."

  • "You must always be ready with your lamps trimmed and burning brightly."

  • "Strong passion can be a good thing when channeled for righteousness."

  • "Come and See."

These are four of the notes I sent to myself. I had a total of 10 notes. I like each of them for different reasons. Some because I had heard them before and I realized more of the message or meaning. Some because I wanted to learn more about them and study in more detail. And still others because I felt it spoke directly to me. I really enjoy the scenes with Mary; I like seeing her in the flesh so to speak. One line that really stuck out to me was in season 1, episode 6. Jesus has been lost and separated from his parents for 3 days and they are frantically searching for him. Joseph and Jesus walk up and Joseph explains that he found him in the temple talking to the scribes and Pharisees. Mary says something to the effect of this is too much, too soon for this to start. Jesus replies, "If not now, when?"

This phrase could apply to so many instances in life. We schedule and schedule and over schedule so many parts of our lives. Many of us are burning the candle at both ends, but don't always reap the reward of our efforts because we are too spent from going and doing. Take time for yourself. Pray to Jesus, pray and help others, and then give yourself a gift and watch this series because if not now, when?
