New Today
Synonyms for mercy include leniency, compassion, grace, blessing, favor, and the list goes on. I seem to be much more merciful to other people than I am to myself. I don't really know why. I believe that the majority of people are dealing with something or battling something that I don't see or know about and deserve a break or mercy. I, like many other people, tend to beat myself up over things I do or don't do in my life; I rarely seem to show myself the grace I show or should show to others.
Recently, I was watching a Father Mike Schmitz Youtube video about sins, confession, and all sorts of topics. He has a way of saying things that strike a chord in me. He seems so honest and so real. His videos had me thinking about how I pick and choose who I show grace to and who I don't. I started thinking, "Who do I think I am?" I am a woman who has good days and bad days. I sin every day, and it seems at times that I repeat the sin time and time again. This made me grateful for God's mercies.
I mean, how lucky are we that God gives us a new start every day? What a blessing. He never stops loving us even when we don't love ourselves. He is true and good, and even when we disappoint him and have to suffer consequences, he still loves us. That is so profound. We don't have to spend too much time thinking about yesterday or even tomorrow because we can't fix yesterday and we are not promised tomorrow. The time is today. If you watch the evening news or even get your news on social media, there are so many horrible things happening in the world that are devastating. The lesson here is live for today. Be aware, be grateful, be conscious of today. Make the best of the situation you are in and listen in the silence and focus on today. I only recently heard the Micah Tyler song "New Today." Take 3-1/2 minutes and enjoy. God bless you all.
