Put On Your Best Outfit

And over all these, put on love, that is, the bond of perfection. Colossians 3:14.

The essence of God is love. Perfect love, no less. In Colossians 3:14, Saint Paul give us a wonderful image of putting on love. Can you imagine actually putting on God as the most important and beautiful garment we can don each day? We would be literally wearing our hearts on our sleeves while robed in Love!

Love allows our inner beauty – God’s love - to shine way more brightly than any piece of clothing we could ever purchase, no matter how good we might feel while wearing it. The garment of love is free for the asking and - BONUS - we will never outgrow it.

A garment of love also offers protection for our goodness & integrity. At the same time, it protects others, whom we will treat with kindness and gentleness, when we are wearing this special attire.

How amazing to visualize each of us being so beautifully clothed, wrapped up in God -- safe, warm and cherished. Plus, there is the side benefit of great strength in putting on this love-of-God garment.

In Ephesians 6:11, we read

Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil.

Then in verses 14-15:

So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace.

Do you find it ironic that Saint Paul encourages us to armor up and prepare for battle against the forces of evil, but then he reminds us that our feet should be ready to move toward the good news of peace?

Can it be that when we put on the armor of God, we are actually preparing ourselves to live in peace?

Now that is a great definition of dressing for success!

Today I am praying a wardrobe of love for all of us.
