Preparing Again

Happy Almost New Year’s Eve! Are you ready to welcome a brand-new liturgical year? If you are at least thinking about it, that’s a good start.

My plan, as always, is to start the season of Advent with great expectations and renewed hope. My resolutions include more time for prayer, less frantic shopping; more peace and less worrying about consumer holiday details.

While reflecting on my life this past church year, I picked up my Prayer Intentions Journal and began reading my entries. As its title implies, this special notebook includes the names of people I am praying for daily. In addition, I have jotted down some personal, Spirit-inspired prayers along with the words of others that spoke to my heart at a particular time. Here are some hand-picked reminders to keep me focused and help light my way to Him this Advent season.

Lord, give me the courage to do one small thing today to bring your love and truth into the world.

Do justice. Love goodness. Walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

Lord God, it is your words that bring me life. Open my ears to hear your voice. Open my heart to receive your grace.

Thank you, Lord, for the gift of life—my own and the life that surrounds me. Help me to think of you every time I enjoy your creation.

May I rejoice every day that Jesus comes anew. May I see the hidden presence of divinity contained within each of us.

True joy and lasting satisfaction are found only in you, Lord. Help me live my life knowing this.

Joy is the happiness that doesn’t depend on what happens.

I know and trust that all those on my prayer list are on your radar, Lord. Even better, you are holding them in your heart.

Father, when I am discouraged by the signs of aging, remind me of your power working through me.

Here I am, Lord, warts and all. Mold me and shape me according to your wisdom.

Do few things, but do them well. Simple joys are holy. Saint Francis of Assisi

Lord, show me how I can share the blessings you have given me.

Praying that you experience an Advent of hope, love, joy and peace.
