A Higher Calling
Even when I don’t verbalize it, I find myself thinking, “Where did this month go?” For most of us, I’m quite sure the month of May falls into its own unique, days-passing-at-warp-speed category. There are just so many events packed into these thirty-one days.
May affords us a special time to honor all mothers and graduates, plus priests and deacons on their ordination anniversaries. At the end of this month, we pay tribute to American service men and women who died in active military service. Very likely, there are assorted birthdays and weddings noted on your calendar as well. May is certainly a month to celebrate vocations!
Whether your vocation is mother, father, priest, deacon, student, soldier, saint-in-the-making or yet-to-be-determined, let’s celebrate together our great common vocation as Christians. We are a people of faith, hope and love. Take some time to recall examples of the transformative power of love in your life and the lives of others. Let’s work on becoming even better examples of Christians that do, in fact, practice love as our vocation.
This May, we joyfully remain people of Eastertide, working on our call to holiness. Our liturgical center of attention, and hopefully our personal focus, is on Jesus’ time on earth after his Resurrection, up to His Ascension and culminating in Pentecost.
Jesus' Ascension shows that He truly overcame death. Through His life of love and sacrifice, He gave us the gift of eternal life. The Ascension is the culmination of Christ's earthly vocation. This Ascension weekend especially, let’s recommit ourselves to Jesus’ vocation of love so we too will make a return to our Heavenly Father.
Ascension blessings!
